Fecund Earth Pottery ~ I am Elizabeth Vincent and in my demonstration I will be assisted by one or two as yet undetermined volunteers. I am a potter specializing in historically inspired, high fire, functional pottery.
Most of my work is based on 3rd century Roman ware and 13th century German ware. Some of the work I am most excited about is inspired by the glorious variety of individuals I meet at Pirate Festivals and SCA events. In my mundane life I am an Art teacher and have been honored to be allowed to share my passion for pottery and ceramic history with people of all ages and from all walks of life. Horse Hair Raku with Fecund Earth Pottery (Crafting Hall: Fri 6:00, Sat 11:30) We will be demonstrating Horse Hair Raku pottery firing. This is an exciting method of firing in which burnished pottery is heated to over a 1000 degrees in a small kiln, the pots are pulled from the kiln hot and individual hairs from a horse's tail are placed on the hot pottery. The hairs ignite as soon as they touch the pot and burn away instantly leaving behind a carbon trail and smoke clouds. The process is entertaining and the results are stunningly beautiful.
